Moore Alumni Scholarship Fund

The Moore Alumni Scholarship Fund is an award funded by past Moore High School graduates with the hopes of helping to change the life of a current graduate-one senior at a time. The fund made its debut in 2011 as part of the Class of '81's 30-year reunion celebration, but is open to all alumni. The fund's application process requires a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, a minimum of 2 years of MHS attendance, two teacher recommendations, proof of 10 hours of community service, and a 500 word essay answering the question, "Where do I see myself in 5 years and how will I use my education for the betterment of my community?". The fund is gaining attention and inspiration as past graduates become aware of this unique Scholarship Award opportunity. As fundraising goals continue, the award has grown from it's original scholarship of $1,200 to $2,250. The fund has no operating expenses and each donation is a tax deductible contribution.

A unique caveat to the selection process includes what is considered the "X" factor. This point scale matrix allows participants to score points based on extenuating circumstances he or she may have experienced during high school which could have otherwise impeded their success. This evens the playing field a bit and encourages a student who otherwise may not receive scholarship money to apply for our fund. The award recipient is never a student who has already obtained a "full" ride worth of scholarships. Anyone interested in helping with the fundraising, selection, or award process should contact Vonna Ohlmann at 502-807-3453.
